What is ‘salted’?

Salted is a design project, focused on merchandise with labels that carry values and communicate possibility, and on photography and design that celebrate place, perspective, humanity, and Nature.

The Salted name is a reference to ocean air and weather, and to the hearty, determined, yet relaxed atmosphere and culture of the New Jersey coastline.

Salted is about place, perspective, and experience. It is about weather and resilience, and the recognition that our global ocean makes life on Earth possible. The name evokes the boundless dreams of summer and the untiring effort that goes into making dreams into living reality.

Salted is about what makes our local experience unique, and why that matters in the wider world. The great blue heron is our emblem, because it thrives in that space between salted and unsalted mists and weathers. 

At times, we will use other symbols in its place, to communicate the specifics of a place, team, story, or creation.

We wish to uphold the creative potential and everyday excellence of humanity, as the tools of our time tempt powerful institutions to sideline people for bots skilled at the ‘Imitation Game’.

The aim of Salted Designs is to offer new looks, new ideas, an evocation of the feel of a place or a group of people, a cultural perspective or an unspoken aspiration that wants and deserves attention. There can be a little extra meaning in anything you wear, a way of saying: We will try.


Portfolio

Our portfolio begins with the Nova york designs—an effort to capture a cultural convergence that makes for constant learning, selfless leadership, and excellent teamwork. Nova York stands for grit, hard work, perseverance in the face of adversity, and creative problem-solving, on the fly.

The Nova york designs feature hats, shirts, and other custom goods, with the aim of evoking the magic of teamwork and adding flavor to your support of the Nova Knicks and of the quest for a championship after more than five decades.
